jibjib beta has eyes with correct aspect

Last week, I started releasing jibjib beta. Beta for jibjib has very special meaning.

release very early. release very often.

Actually, it has been released almost 3 times a day. Anyway, I am always the first beta tester. If it is good enough, I will announce in Twitter. So if you want to try the very latest beta version, just follow @sugree. And now I proudly present the latest #jibjib beta that should support 80% camera phone around the world.

I don't want to lie you. jibjib does not support all camera phones even your phones do support MMAPI. I cannot promise that jibjib runs properly on your phone or not. Only one I thing I promise is that I will help you find out the workaround to make it run on your phone. And I just want one thing from you. I just need your time. The time for helping me to know about your phone as much as possible.

Sadly, my experiences in MMAPI are almost zero so I don't know the best practice to make it compatible with all phones. So jibjib lets you to configure 90% of parameters regarding MMAPI. If it is possible to use MMAPI in your phone, you might be able to adjust some settings in Setup screen to match your device.

There are 3 important settings.

  1. Capture device - Most phones will use capture://video but some old Nokia will use capture://image and some recent models with front and rear cameras will use capture://devcamp0 and capture://devcamp1.
  2. Picture options - formerly known as Snapshot encoding. Below are sample for this value if you don't choose one in preset.

    1. Just blank - to use default encoding.
    2. encoding=jpg or encoding=image/jpeg or other format in this form.
    3. You may specify width and height, e.g., encoding=jpg&width=480&height=640.
  3. Fullscreen - If you want to see video in fullscreen mode while taking a picture, just enable this option.

I also found that most of beta testers don't know how to use TwitPic. Please follow below steps.

  1. Select Tweet menu.
  2. Type caption now or later.
  3. Select Picture menu and then you should see camera here.
  4. If you don't want to see preview camera, just select "Visible/Hide" menu.
  5. Press Capture menu to take a shot.
  6. Now you will see the picture waiting for confirmation. Press OK menu to confirm.
  7. You will be back to Tweet menu to add some texts and then select "Send" menu as usual.

Caution!

  1. Don't forget to use Birdnest.
  2. This version changed configuration format to JSON so you might need to uninstall/remove old version and then install from scratch.

Happy tweeting!

It works with my phone now.

It works with my phone now. Hoorey!!!

Anyway, I think jibjib now is too complicated and this makes it not intuitive as before. My advise: you should restructure the menu. We can work on this.

w00t! no doubt. Why'd I

w00t! no doubt.

Why'd I have to go and make things so complicated?

Oops! I mean Avril. :P

Hi, your code help me so

Hi, your code help me so much in my project.

However I have 1 question. I checkout project from your trunk in google code on Monday 30 June. I just want to know that why u check "com.nokia.mid.ui.DeviceControl" in method isSonyEricsson() in com.substanceofcode.infrastructure.Device.java. I think it should be another class that belong to "Sony Ericsson".

Sorry if I ask a silly question.

Sorry I don't know. That

Sorry I don't know. That part of code has been taken from Twim. :) It seems there is no way to check for SE easily. In fact, it is not necessary to check because we are working with Java!

Ok. Thanks ^^. But in my

Ok. Thanks ^^. But in my experience, I found some problems that need to know the mobile vendor. So, it's good if I can find solution to the problem. However, thank you for jibjib. It's a very good one.

It works on my Nokia N78

It works on my Nokia N78 through WLAN! The application is quite simple, but it is OK. And i tried some other alternatives (such as Fring), but could not get them to work.

I am not J2ME expert and I

I am not J2ME expert and I always prefer something native and primitive.
